Why JWB

Why choose a European specialist instead of a general mechanic?

European cars are built differently, and they fail differently. Cooling systems with plastic components, dual-clutch gearboxes, air suspension and heavily networked electronics all need people who see them every week. That is the whole of our work.

James owns JWB and is the mechanic working on your car, so the person who quotes your job is the one doing it. He brings extensive experience across all European brands, and each one gets its own process: we follow the manufacturer's service schedule and repair procedures for your model, and fit genuine or original-supplier parts. A BMW cooling system and a Volkswagen DSG gearbox don't fail the same way, and we don't treat them the same way.

You talk to the technicians. Ask us a question and the answer comes from the person who has had your car on the hoist.

Dealership-grade diagnostic equipment for reading faults properly, not guessing.

Warranty-safe logbook servicing to the manufacturer’s schedule, with OEM-quality parts.

No surprises. We quote before any work starts, and we call before doing anything extra.

Our technicians bring 15 years combined experience on prestige and performance vehicles. Read more about the team and the equipment on our workshop page.

How your Clayton mechanic quotes the job

We don't work from a fixed price list, because no two European cars need the same thing. Your quote is built from two parts: the labour time the job takes, and the parts your car needs. We source the best quality parts we can at a fair price, and tell you what we're fitting.

You get the quote before any work starts, and a call before we do anything extra. Most services are done the same day unless we tell you otherwise when you book. We take card and cash.

  • Absolute legends at JWB. Took my BMW in for a coolant leak and they had it back to me in no time. Fair pricing and no hidden dramas. If you’re around Clayton and drive a European car, don't bother going anywhere else, or wherever you are in Melbourne, it's worth the drive, the service and quality of work is amazing. I highly recommend these guys.

  • We’ve brought our car here multiple times, and every time the service has been excellent. James is straightforward, honest, and very clear about what needs to be done, with transparent communication throughout the whole process. He’s also extremely helpful and makes you feel like you can really trust his advice, which means a lot when it comes to car repairs. Bonus points for his awesome dog too. Highly recommend.

Frequently asked questions

Are European cars expensive to repair?

They can cost more to maintain than some other makes because of specialised parts and diagnostic equipment, but an independent European specialist is often better value than a dealership for the same work. At JWB Automotive we quote before any work starts, so you decide before you spend anything.

What is a euro mechanic?

A euro mechanic is a workshop that focuses on European makes such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Volkswagen. That focus means familiarity with the diagnostic systems, common faults and correct parts for those cars, which is what a general workshop may not have day to day.

How often should I service my European car?

Follow the interval in your logbook or on-board service display, which is usually every 12 months with a distance limit that varies by make and model, commonly between 10,000 and 25,000 km. Whichever limit comes first is when the service is due.

Will servicing with an independent workshop void my new-car warranty?

In Australia, servicing a new car at a qualified independent workshop does not automatically void the manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the work follows the manufacturer’s schedule and uses suitable parts. Our logbook services are carried out to manufacturer standards so your warranty stays protected.

Do I need a specialist, or can any mechanic in Clayton service my European car?

Any qualified mechanic can service it without affecting your warranty. The difference is in the faults. European cars have their own common problems, service procedures and diagnostic software, and a mechanic who works on them every day finds the cause faster and replaces fewer parts getting there.

Is the person I speak to the one working on my car?

Yes. James owns the workshop and is on the tools every day, so questions get answered by the person who has had your car on the hoist.

Do you use genuine parts?

We fit genuine or original-supplier parts matched to your car, and tell you which before work starts.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes. Our repairs and the parts we fit are covered by a warranty. The length depends on the job and the parts used, so we confirm it with your quote.

How long will my car be in the workshop?

Most logbook services and routine repairs are finished the same day. If a job needs longer, for example a part that has to be ordered in, your mechanic will tell you before you drop the car off.

How do I pay?

By card or cash when you collect the car.
