Check Engine Light & Car Diagnostics in Clayton

A warning light on a European car is the start of a question, not the answer. We use dealership-grade diagnostic equipment to find the actual cause, then tell you what it is before we repair anything.

How our diagnostic process works

  1. Talk it through

You tell us what the car is doing, when it started and what you have noticed.

  2. Read the car

We connect dealership-grade equipment and read the fault memory across all modules, not just the engine.

  3. Test to confirm

A code is a starting point, so we test the circuit or component before blaming a part.

  4. Explain and quote

We tell you what we found, what it needs and the price before any repair work starts.

We explain how diagnosis is charged before we start, so there are no surprises. If the fix is a service item, it often folds into a logbook service, and if the fault is electrical we will point you to auto electrical and battery replacement.

Frequently asked questions

Can I drive with the check engine light on?

If the light is steady and the car drives normally, you can usually drive it a short distance to get it checked, but do not ignore it. If it is flashing, or the car is running rough, reduce load and have it checked as soon as possible.

Why is my check engine light flashing?

A flashing light usually means an active engine misfire, which can damage the catalytic converter if the car keeps being driven hard. Ease off and get it looked at promptly.

Is a fault code the same as a diagnosis?

No. A code points to where the car detected a problem, not always to the failed part. Proper diagnosis uses the code as a starting point, followed by testing to confirm the cause before anything is replaced.

Will you tell me what is wrong before you fix it?

Yes. We explain what we found and quote the repair before any work starts, and we call you before doing anything extra.
